We have arrived Fana around 100 km East of Bamako, Hotel Casablance! 525Km from Savare outside Mopti.

The started in Sangha - Gite de la Femme Dogon. We got up early to start the hike at 7AM guided by Issa.

And what a hike it showed to be - 15 km, first over the rocks SW a few kilometers, then down the escarpment and a further few kilometers through two vilages. Then a beer stop and walk about 5 km NE in the valley - it is hot now.

Then lunch - expensive and not impressive - and up the escarpment, then about 2 km back to the hotel. It does not sound like much, but taking into account that we are not young, out of shape and the difference in height from top to bottom is about 1000 feet, and you are actually just descending on rocks the way they fell and quite steep. Exhausting.

We were back up around two PM had a cold beer and drove to Savare and Mac's Refuge. This trip is something you should do if you can. It is outright spectacular and culturally interesting. We would have liked a few more days.

Mac's Refuge showed to be pleasant with several interesting travellers. Great food and a mosquito free room. In the morning we had the flat tyre fixed. There were two very big nails in there. Our professional tyreshop - the boy did not use a sledge hammer to break the tyre from the rim, he put the new innner tube in on concrete - no sand - and he actually checked the correct air pressure. The tyre is now a spare though.

Then Mopti, unfortunately in a hurry for the coast. Drove around a bit and on toward Bamako 650km to the west. Boring drive, but no rain. Found a small hotel in Fana. Kebba in the roof tent and us in a room. Kebba is now out on the town, Joni and I eating camping food.
