Happy New Year from The Gambia1999 was an interesting and troublesome year for us. Arun was born February 3.rd in London. He is a very goodnatured and alert little fellow. He is very welcome We moved in April from Kololi to Cape Point (new telefon number 497188), into a lovely house on a big quiet lot directly on the beach. Every room has seaview. It took some renovation before we could move in. We are still not finished with the outside and the garden, but can see the end. Visitors this year were Jeff, Laura & Trevor and Louise. Louise finished her studenterexam in June, Peter went to Denmark for the party. Louise is now working to save money for travelling. Nat, Lawrence and Arun moved to London in September to try their luck in the big city. We feel it is vital for them to get educated and live at least a few years out of Africa. Swedent Clinic was closed in September, as The Gambian Medical and Dental Council wants further documentation of Joni's qualifications as a Dentist. Joni was very successfull, and that makes you a target here. It has of course hurt us financially, but we hope to stick it out.
We have had three litters of puppies, one from Belle & Odin and two from our local dog and a farther. Except for the last 6, which are very recent, they are all given away or sold.
In December we had to give in and buy a generator, it is a one-cylinder diesel from 79. Sounds like an old fishing boat, but does the job. Peter has been playing with this and other websites and his golf. His lack of practicing is reflected in the fact that his handicap has gone up with two strokes since March to 20. Osman Kolley has graduated from St. Marys University Extention Program in December. Bachelor of Arts. Osman has come a long way from Marakisa. He is now teaching secondary school. We wish him luck.
